BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Middle Tennessee women's soccer 6-3-3 (1-0-1 CUSA) battled to a 1-1 draw on Saturday night against Western Kentucky 4-4-2 (1-0-1 CUSA) at the WKU Soccer Complex.
The Hilltoppers struck first in the 23rd minute, but the Blue Raiders answered after halftime. In the 60th minute, forward Emma Pettersen netted her team-leading fifth goal of the season, finishing off an assist from senior Yana Yordanova.
Both sides recorded 10 shots, including five on target. Goalkeeper Demi Gronauer tallied four saves to help anchor the Blue Raider defense.
Head coach Aston Rhoden on the team's performance:
"It's tough being down a goal on the road. I thought we controlled things for a lot of the game and were just unlucky with that goal, but the team showed true character and heart. They kept fighting and put us in a position late where we could have won the game, so I'm really pleased with the effort."
By The Number:
Pettersen set a new career high with five goals this season.
The last time Middle Tennessee and Western Kentucky played to a draw was on October 2, 2022, in Murfreesboro, ending with a 1-1 score.
