GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Middle Tennessee Softball (3-8) split day one of the UF Softball Tournament. The Blue Raiders defeated Lindenwood (6-4) by a score of 5-1 and fell to No. 4 Florida (16-0) in five innings by a score of 8-0.
The day started off hot for the Blue Raiders with seven hits and five runs against the Lions. All five runs were driven in off the bats of Mady Pint and Onnika Spencer, who each blasted home runs. Jana Want and Adaeze Nwogbo also knocked extra base hits for Middle Tennessee in the first game of the day. Braelyn Hall got the start in the circle, striking out a career high five batters in five innings of work. Elle Hildreth entered the game in relief and delivered two scoreless innings to close out the game for the Blue Raiders.
Middle Tennessee competed well against Florida, holding the Gators to just six hits, the fewest by any team who has played the SEC opponent this season. Halle Klaiber got the start before Mary Martinez took over in the circle after the first inning. Pint recorded the only Blue Raider hit of the game, snagging three bags with a triple just shy of clearing the outfield wall.
