Blue Raiders Top Alabama State, Austin Peay at Home

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee capped a strong Sunday at the Outdoor Tennis Complex with a pair of wins, defeating Alabama State 5-2 before earning a 6-1 win over Austin Peay.
The Blue Raiders are 12-0 at home and currently on a six-game winning streak.
Against Alabama State
In doubles play, the No. 38-ranked team of Ondrej Horak and Karim Al-Amin secured a 6-1 victory on court one. However, Alabama State won on courts two and three to take an early 1-0 lead.
Freddy Murray was the first to finish, winning decisively with a score of 6-1, 6-1 over Vid Maric at court five, with Alabama State breaking serve once in each set. The match is tied 1-1.
Junior Birtan Duran then achieved a 6-3, 6-2 win against Martin Catrice at court three. The match was tied 3-3 in the first set before Duran won the next three games and led throughout the second set. MTSU now leads 2-1.
Horak increased the lead with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Milan Ristov on court one. Though Alabama State tried to narrow the first set at 4-3, Horak clinched the next two games. The Hornets broke serve twice in the second set. MTSU leads 3-1.
Senior Jonasz Dziopak followed with another straight-sets victory, defeating Eloi Roux 6-4, 6-3 at court four. The first set featured a back-and-forth battle that was tied at 4-4 before Dziopak won the next two games. The second set was tied 3-3 before Dziopak went on a three-game run.
Alabama State earned their second point at court six, where Loris Gueli defeated freshman Santiago Lora with a score of 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8). Although Lora made a comeback in the second set, winning 6-4, he ultimately lost in the 10-point tiebreaker after tying it at 7-7.
Finally, on court two, Al-Amin clinched the match in a three-set contest against Flor De Sitter, winning 6-7, 6-2, 7-5. After dropping the first set in a tiebreaker, Al-Amin dominated the second set with Alabama State breaking serve twice, and in the third set, Al-Amin was tied at 5-5 before winning the next two games on deuce points.
Against Austin Peay
In doubles play, Al-Amin and Horak narrowly defeated Rohan Loubser and Logan Tomovski 7-5. Crivei and Dziopak secured the doubles point with a 6-1 victory against Felip De La Hormaza and Vincent Wei-Hsin on court two. Austin Peay earned its sole doubles win at No. 3, where Lucas Ranciaro and Bodi Van Galen overcame Jacques and Mayoral 6-4.
In singles, Horak was the first to complete his match, achieving a 6-4, 2-0 win over Rohan Loubser at court one after Loubser retired in the second set. This gave the Blue Raiders a second point, making the score 2-0.
Crivei followed with a 6-4, 6-4 victory against Felip De La Hormaza at court four. The opening set was tied at 3-3 and again at 4-4 before Crivei took the next two games. In the second set, De La Hormaza reduced the score from 4-2 to 5-4, but Crivei won the following game. MTSU now led 3-0 in match points.
Murray next secured a 6-1, 6-3 decision over Logan Tomovski on court three. Tomovski aimed to close the gap at 5-3, but it was not sufficient as Murray won the next game on a 40-30 point. MTSU secured victory with a 4-0 match point lead.
On other singles courts, Duran captured a three-set win at court two for the first time this season, defeating Vincent Wei-Hsin 6-0, 3-6, 6-1. After losing the second set, Duran overcame a 0-1 deficit in the third set, ultimately winning the match with a five-game streak, bringing MTSU to a 5-0 lead.
Austin Peay's only singles point came at No. 5, where Lucas Ranciaro defeated Jacques 4-6, 6-3, 6-0. This match marked Jacques's singles debut in his college career. After winning the first set, Jacques fell behind 0-2 in the second set but managed to narrow the gap to 3-2, which was not enough to secure the win.
Murfreesboro's Rich LaLance finished with a victory against Glen Arnet 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. After losing the second set, LaLance rebounded and maintained his lead in the third set, winning on a deuce point with a score of 6-4.
