BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Middle Tennessee Softball (13-14, 3-4 CUSA) fell to Western Kentucky (20-7, 4-3 CUSA) despite an attempted late-inning comeback. The Blue Raiders dropped game one of the Conference USA series by a score of 5-4.

The Blue Raiders fell behind early, giving up two runs in the first inning before holding the Hilltoppers scoreless for the next two. Middle Tennessee responded with its first runs of the game in the top of the fifth with a hit from Ansley Blevins and a WKU error to score a second. The Blue Raiders struck again with an RBI double from Lucie McDonald.

Middle Tennessee entered the top of the seventh down by two runs. With two outs on the board, Onnika Spencer drilled a homer past the center field run to keep the inning alive, but the Blue Raiders would ultimately fall by a run to drop the contest 5-4.

Tori Coffman got the start in the circle for the Blue Raiders, tossing 3.1 innings, striking out one and picking up the loss before Mary Martinez entered to close out the game in relief.

7: With her two hits against the Hilltoppers tonight, Ansley Blevins recorded her seventh multi-hit game of the season.
13: Kennedy Chatman turned the 13th double play of the season for the Blue Raiders.
32: Onnika Spencer recorded home run number 32 for Middle Tennessee in the top of the seventh, her fourth of the season.
