Blue Raiders drop series to Delaware

NEWARK, Del. – Middle Tennessee Softball (15-23, 4-13 CUSA) dropped its second battle with Delaware (22-19, 10-7 CUSA) by a score of 4-3.
The game was back-and-forth, with two ties and four lead changes throughout the seven innings of play. The Blue Hens took the lead first, striking early in the first inning. The Blue Raiders answered in the top of the third; Lani Jones took first base on a hit by pitch, and Mady Pint drove her in with an RBI double to tie the game. Middle Tennessee hung a zero on defense in the bottom of the third and took the lead in the top of the fourth with an RBI double from Avery Wynne.
The lead changed again in the bottom of the fourth, Delaware putting up two runs, but Middle Tennessee answered with a run in the top of the fifth to tie the game back up. The game was scoreless until the bottom of the seventh, when the Blue Hens walked the game off.
Halle Klaiber got the start in the circle for the Blue Raiders, pitching two innings before Elle Hildreth entered the game in relief. Hildreth struck out one and recorded the loss in her 4.2 innings of work. Klaiber and Hildreth combined to hold Delaware to just one earned run.
