MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee Softball (17-25, 5-15 CUSA) evened up the series against New Mexico State (22-21, 12-8 CUSA) with a 7-5 win at the Blue Raider Softball Field.
The game was back-and-forth to start, New Mexico State driving in the first run of the game in the top of the first and Middle Tennessee answering in the bottom of the frame with a run of its own; Elle Hildreth recording her first RBI of the season to tie the game for the Blue Raiders. Middle Tennessee hung a zero in the top of the second, and Lucie McDonald roped a home run down the left field line to give Middle Tennessee the lead in the bottom of the second.
The game was tied for a second time after the Aggies had another run cross the plate in the top of the third inning, but in the bottom of the third, the Blue Raider bats struck. Ansley Blevins shot off a solo shot to take back the lead for the Blue Raiders, extended with a two-run home run off the bat of Avery Wynne, the first of her career. Neither team scored another run until the bottom of the sixth, where Macie Harter and Jana Want both doubled to bring in two more Blue Raider runs.
The game appeared to be all Middle Tennessee heading into the top of the seventh, but New Mexico State sent off a three-run home run in one final comeback attempt. The Aggies' rally was quickly shut down, and the Blue Raiders took the win by a final score of 7-5.
Halle Klaiber got the start in the circle for the Blue Raiders, pitching 6.1 innings, striking out two and recording the win for Middle Tennessee. Tori Coffman entered the game in relief to record the final two outs of the game, earning her first save of the season.
