Mikel Riggs

Mikel Riggs is in his first year as a member of Derek Mason’s staff, serving as the program’s Director of Football Operations.
In his role, Riggs oversees the daily operational functions of the football program, including scheduling, team travel logistics, events, and more.
Prior to arriving at MTSU, Riggs spent five years at Auburn with the last four years as the football programs Director of Football Operations. He planned, coordinated, and executed large-scale logistics including team travel, scheduling, operational timelines, and year-round calendars involving multiple internal departments and external partners. Also served on the SEC Coach to Player Subcommittee to develop and implement the rules and regulations of In-Game Coach to Player communication for the SEC.
From 2021-22 at Auburn, Riggs was the Director of Recruiting, Marketing and Creative Strategy which involved project planning, content development, and digital communications.
Riggs was in the high school ranks from 2011 until 2020. He served as head football coach at West Morgan High School from 2018-20 and was the offensive coordinator at Leeds High School from 2016-18. Riggs was also the offensive coordinator at T.R. Miller High School and the defensive back coach at Foley High School.
Riggs earned his Bachelor of Physical Education from Auburn in 2011 and his Master of Instructional Leadership from Jacksonville State in 2019. Riggs, and his wife Mallory, have three children: Mattie Beckett, Major, and Miller Massey.
