Joe Pierre joined the Middle Tennessee men’s basketball program as a graduate assistant in the summer of 2016 and handles all video coordinator duties for the Blue Raiders.
Pierre joined the Blue Raider staff after spending the spring of 2016 as an assistant coach at Pawnee High School in Oklahoma under six-time state champion coach David Page where he also was a middle school teacher. His 2016 squad started 28-0 before falling in the state semifinal game.
He also spent a season as the head coach of the eighth grade team at Stillwater Junior High School in 2015.
Prior to his high school coaching stint, Pierre served as a student manager from 2011-15 at Oklahoma State University under his father and former Cowboys assistant Butch Pierre, who is now the director of recruiting and scouting at Memphis.
During his four seasons assisting with the Cowboys men’s basketball program, OSU tallied 78 wins and made three consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament.
Pierre graduated from Oklahoma State in December 2015 with a B.S. in secondary education and is now working on his M.Ed. in administration at Middle Tennessee.
He played high school basketball at Stillwater High School for coach Michael “Chick” Davis before suffering a career-ending ACL injury and graduated in 2011.
Pierre’s father earned a B.S. and M.Ed. from Mississippi State University, where he played point guard alongside current Blue Raider head man Kermit Davis. He finished his Bulldog career third all-time in assists and still remains in the top 10.
Pierre’s mother, Clemmie, earned her B.A. from the University of Kentucky. His brother, Josh, was a four-year guard at Arkansas State University and is currently the director of operations for the Red Wolves, while his sister, Langley McClay, holds a B.S. and M.Ed. and is currently pursuing a Ph.D., all from Louisiana State University.
Pierre was born Dec. 1, 1992 in Baton Rouge, La.
