Bryce Brentz enters his third season as Assistant Coach at Middle Tennessee. The MTSU Baseball all-time home run leader begins his coaching career after playing ten years in Major League Baseball where he was a first-round draft pick of the Boston Red Sox in 2010.
Brentz was inducted into the Blue Raider Hall of Fame in 2020, while his wife Anne Marie Brentz will be inducted later this year for her integral part in one of the greatest eras in Lady Raider basketball. He was named the 2009 Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year after leading NCAA Division 1 in home runs and helping lead the Blue Raiders to a school-record 44 wins. Brentz is the all-time home run leader and in the top three of seven career categories: home runs (1st), slugging percentage (1st), multi-home run games (1st), batting average (2nd), runs scored (2nd), total bases (2nd) and RBI (3rd).
The Knoxville, Tenn. native joins Head Coach Jeff Breeden’s staff to lead the hitters and infielders going into the 2023-24 season. A Blue Raider team who led Conference USA in batting average a season ago at .293 will look to improve on that by adding Brentz’s expertise.
“He brings an unmatched knowledge of hitting to our staff,” said Breeden. “He has what it takes to get us to the next level.”
Breeden looks to continue to build on the best season in program history in 2022-23 where the Blue Raiders set a new program record 44 wins to go along with a CUSA Championship and a national top-25 ranking.
“I'm just honored to be back," said Brentz. "This has been home since 2007 and always will be. I love this university. It's been so good to me and having the chance to give back daily and help the softball program is just a blessing I could not pass up. The incredible amount of knowledge I gained from instructors and experiences is what I want to pour into these girls so they can make faster adjustments and become more efficient to the ball. We're going to keep building off the championship culture Coach Breeden has created. I understand the expectations are high, and I love that.”
Coach Breeden was sold on the fact that no one else has more passion and love for this university as he does.
“Bryce completely sold me in the interview process on the fact that no one else in America loves this university as much as him,” said Breeden.
