MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee Lady Raiders open home action this Saturday with a 2 p.m. contest against Cincinnati at the Murphy Center on the MTSU campus. The game is part of the doubleheader with the Blue Raider men.
The Lady Raiders have never defeated the Bearcats in three previous contests, including a 63-54 loss on December 29, 1999, in the last meeting. The 1999 meeting was the only contest of the three in Murfreesboro. The two squads also met during the 1997-98 season (81-61 UC) and the 1984-85 campaign (98-91 UC).
The Cincinnati contest begins a stretch of six home games in eight contests for the Lady Raiders over the next three-plus weeks, with games versus Ole Miss, UT Martin, Tennessee Tech, Houston and Kansas State during that stretch. The Lady Raiders are scheduled to play 14 home games this season at the Murphy Center, where they have a 238-72 mark over 26 seasons. MT is 40-10 in four seasons under head coach Stephany Smith at home.
The Bearcats are led by guard Valerie King and center Tamara Douglass, who are both averaging 16.0 ppg. Douglass is the team's leading rebounder at 9.5 per contest, and K.B. Sharp is dishing out 9.5 assists per game thus far this season.
