Lady Raiders Split With FIU

MIAMI, Fla. - In the second day of action, Middle Tennessee softball (18-19, 1-3 SBC) split with Florida International (31-24, 3-1 SBC) 6-3, 1-0 Sunday at University Field.
Middle Tennessee took the first game of the double header with a run-scoring flurry in the fourth inning, defeating FIU 6-3. Lady Raider pitcher Amanda Kendall started the game, giving up three runs receiving a no decision, as junior Stayc Preator picked up the win (5-8) when she came into the game in the bottom of the fourth.
Erica Buhl put the Lady Raiders on the board for the first time in 24 innings when she hit a line drive shot into right field sending home pinch runner Katie McCraw in the fourth inning. After pinch hitter Dani DeCamino drew a walk, second baseman Lisa Sherman singled to send home pinch runner Laura Brockman.
Middle Tennessee took the lead (4-3) with a two RBI single sending home Buhl and DeCamino. Leah Grothause tacked on the fifth run with a single sending home Sherman, and Lindsay Azevedo continued the scoring frenzy with a single sending in Hieb.
The Lady Raiders ended the fourth with six runs on seven hits and left two on base. Middle Tennessee's six run battery was the most runs scored this season in a single inning.
FIU took the second game when Kristen Perry hit a bunt single to send home Lesley Gillen in the bottom of the tenth inning. Middle Tennessee hurler Martinez threw 9.1 innings and picked up the loss, falling to 12-7 on the year.
The Lady Raiders will be back in action on Saturday when they host No. 17 Louisiana-Lafayette in conjunction with Spring Fling on the Middle Tennessee campus. Double-header action begins at 3 p.m.
