MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee softball plays its final home games of the season when the Lady Raiders host Sun Belt Conference foe New Mexico State University (19-37, 2-10 SBC) on Saturday May 4 at 3 and 5 p.m. and Sunday May 5 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
With the Sun Belt race winding down, Middle Tennessee (20-28, 3-9 SBC) needs to sweep New Mexico State and hope for a Florida International sweep of Western Kentucky to be seeded third in the tournament. Overall, Middle Tennessee holds a 3-2 record over the Lady Aggies, with the MT winning the final two meetings 4-3, 5-4. If the Lady Raiders can snag the third seed, it means one less game they have to play at the tournament.
"This is an important weekend for our team," said head coach Cindy Connelley. "We need to have a good weekend so we can build momentum for next week."
Middle Tennessee's seniors will be recognized on Sunday between games one and two. The seven seniors is the most in school history and included: Lindsay Azevedo, Laura Brockman, Amanda Kendall, Jennifer Martinez, Lisa Sherman, Steffi Silva and Ashlie Way.
"This will be an exciting time for our seniors, with their parents in the stands," Connelley said. "They will be stepping on the field for the last time in their career and hopefully they can channel some of that sentiment and save the best for last."
