Lady Raider Golf Team Ready to Get Started

Moore, who is in her third year at the helm of the Middle Tennessee women's golf program, wants her team to finish in the top five in every tournament that they participate in during the spring season.
The team accomplished this feat in six of the 11 tournaments that they were a part of last year and finished in the top five in two of the four tournaments in the fall of 2003.
"I think this is a very realistic goal," said Moore. "Last year we finished in fifth place in the two tournaments that we start the season off with this year. I like our chances if we can get everything together."
Moore's team is fairly young and will be relying on a bevy of underclassmen and two upperclassmen at the front of the pack to help them achieve their goal.
Junior Kristin Lynch, a native of Tullahoma, Tenn., will play at the No. 1 position this weekend after a strong fall in which she had the lowest stroke average on the team at 76.4, good enough for the sixth-best average in the Sun Belt.
"After having such a great fall, I am looking for great things this weekend and this year from Kristin," Moore said.
At the No. 2 spot is Tamara Munsch-Akers (Hays, Ks.) a two-time all-conference performer and the only senior on the squad.
Last year, Munsch-Akers, who had just the surname Munsch a year ago (she was married over the summer and added Akers), had the Lady Raiders' best scoring average at 77.5 and was the team leader in nearly every category.
In the fall, however, she garnered the second-best scoring average on the team and 10th best in the Sun Belt at 78.
"Tamara brings a great deal of leadership to this team," Moore said. "She works very hard and she is the last one at the golf course everyday."
The golfer at No. 3 is true freshman Jenny Kim (Seoul, Korea), a golfer that Moore says has great potential.
"Jenny has only been playing golf for three years," Moore said. "She has a great deal of talent and will be a great college golfer before her career is up."
Another true freshman, Maggie McGill (Bowling Green, Ky.), will be at the No. 4 spot. McGill, who had a 79 average in the fall, finished second at the John Kirk/Lady Panther tournament in the fall, registering a round of 73 in the process.
"Maggie is a scrappy player who loves competition," Moore said. "She will do well, especially in tournaments, because she is a tournament player."
The No. 5 spot is a bit of a surprise. Not because Grace Holmes (Lexington, Tenn.) does not have talent but because she has undergone a complete swing reconstruction.
"Grace is just starting to come around and I expect special things from her this spring," Moore said.
The Lady Raiders begin play this weekend in Miami, Fla., at the third annual Golden Panther Women's Golf Championship. The tournament is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday.
Last season, the Lady Raiders finished tied for fifth at the tournament, with Munsch-Akers finishing in third place overall.
