Lady Raider catcher Angie Huebner's solo homerun over the right centerfield wall broke open a scoreless game in the top of the sixth to give Middle Tennessee a 1-0 lead. Right fielder Katie Tompkins followed with double into centerfield and Muriel Ledbetter sent Tompkins home off and RBI single for the second run of the inning.
Freshman hurler Ashley Frizzell started the game and threw 5.1 scoreless innings before she got into a jam. After walking lead off batter Kelei Walker and advanced to second on a fielder's choice, Frizzell allowed a double by Heather Bostic to put runners at second and third. Crystal Bobo replaced Frizzel with one out, but got some help when Walker was picked off at third for the second out. Bobo closed out the inning when she forced Mandy Hacker to fly out to right field.
Bobo denied North Texas' rally in the bottom of the seventh inning as she drew two pop ups and then struck out Monica Garcia to end the game for her second save of the season. Frizzell took the win and improved to 5-0 on the season and recorded the first shut out of her career.
North Texas struck early in the first game with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Middle Tennessee took the lead for the only time in the game when they scored two runs in the top of the third inning off an RBI single by Brittany Herald and then an error by North Texas allowed the second run.
The Mean Green took the lead back in the bottom of the third with two runs and then punched around four runs in the fourth to put the game out of reach. Bobo took the loss in the game and fell to 10-10.
Middle Tennessee completes the series with the final two games on Sunday.
