Huebner Hits Game Winner to Preserve Sweep

Angie Huebner hit the game winning single in the bottom of the seventh to give the Lady Raiders a 3-2 win over Birmingham Southern in the first game. Middle Tennessee trailed 2-1 in the seventh when Muriel Ledbetter hit a lead off double and was sent home when Cortney Mitchell hit a seeing-eye single to tie the game.
Birmingham Southern took an early lead when Dawn Treadwell hit a triple in the top of the third and scored off an RBI single by Jennifer Wellborn. The Panthers added their second run when Lady Raider pitcher Ashley Frizzell walked in the run with the bases loaded. Middle Tennessee centerfielder Leah Grothause hit an RBI single to plate Mitchell in the bottom of the fifth.
Frizzell picked up the win and improves to 6-0 as she went four innings allowing one run on two hits and striking out one. Brittany Herald started the game but got the no-decision as she pitched three innings and allowed one run on two hits and struck out two.
Middle Tennessee jumped out early in the second game. After Katie Tompkins drew a walk, Mitchell hit her 19th double of the year and the 36th RBI to give the Lady Raiders a 1-0 lead. Herald added the second run of the game for Middle Tennessee when she plated Ledbetter after she got on base with her first triple of the season.
Tompkins started a three run rally in the fifth with her ninth double of the year. Panther pitcher Kristina Villavicencio loaded the bases on back-to-back walks and Grothause came up with two outs and hit a base clearing triple.
Middle Tennessee tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning when Liz Davis got on base with a single and was sent home off an RBI double by Ledbetter. Herald knocked in Ledbetter with her 39th RBI of the season on a sacrifice fly for the second run of the inning.
Crystal Bobo (12-10) tossed her seventh shutout of the season as she pitched five innings allowing just one hit and striking out seven. Sophomore Jennifer Dorais picked up her second save of the year as she came in to throw two scoreless innings not allowing a hit and striking out two.
Middle Tennessee returns to action on Saturday when the Lady Raiders host Sun Belt Conference foe New Mexico State. The first pitch is set for 1 p.m. at Lady Raider Field.
