Middle Tennessee committed two errors and allowed six unearned runs as Louisiana-Lafayette won the first game 8-0 in five innings. Lady Raider Crystal Bobo allowed two earned runs on eight hits.
After two scoreless innings, Louisiana-Lafayette scored its first run in the top of the third when Holly Tankersly hit an RBI double to plate Tiffany Hebert. The fourth inning is when the wheels came off for the Lady Raiders when ULL scored six runs off two Middle Tennessee errors and a Bobo wild pitch.
Cortney Mitchell broke up Ragin Cajun pitcher Brooke Mitchell's attempt at a no-hitter when she poked a single between shortstop and third base. Louisiana-Lafayette pinch hitter Leslie Pierce's RBI single gave the Ragin Cajuns their eighth run of the game in the top of the fifth inning. Bobo falls to 15-11 with the loss.
Middle Tennessee jumped out early in the second game stringing together two runs. After Muriel Ledbetter, Mitchell and Brittany Herald hit singles to load the bases. Leah Grothause's fielder's choice RBI plated Ledbetter for the first run of the inning. The Lady Raiders then had runners at the corners and a double steal sent Mitchell home for the second run.
Freshman hurler Ashley Frizzell tossed five scoreless innings before Louisiana-Lafayette got on the scoreboard off an RBI single by Pierce. With the score 2-1, Louisiana-Lafayette took the lead in the top of the seventh after Frizzell loaded the bases on two walks and a single. A two base scoring error sent two runners home when the ball rolled into dugout. The Ragin Cajuns added an insurance run with an RBI by Brittany Bryant.
Frizzell took the loss as she tossed her second consecutive complete game and falls to 6-3 on the year. She allowed one earned run on six hits and struck out five.
Middle Tennessee will complete its home game series with Louisiana-Lafayette on Sunday. First pitch action beginning at 1 p.m., and senior recognition ceremonies will occur between the double header.
