BYU Blanks Blue Raiders 4-0

PALO ALTO, Calif. - Middle Tennessee softball (6-15-1) was shutout by BYU (15-5) 4-0 in the first day of the Stanford Invitational Thursday at Smith Family Field.
Laura Moore started the game for the Blue Raiders and tossed one scoreless inning. She was replaced by Trish White in the second inning and White completed one scoreless inning before the Cougars pounced on White in the third.
BYU put together three runs on five hits and the Blue Raiders committed one error in the Cougars third inning explosion. In the fourth inning, BYU added one more run to cap its scoring output for the game.
The Blue Raiders only true scoring threat came in the top of the seventh inning. With one out junior Shelby Stiner hit a double to left field and advanced to third on a ground out by Michelle Wilkes. Jennifer Dorais ground out to third to end the Blue Raider scoring chances.
Trish White took the loss in the game going four innings and allowing four runs on 10 hits with just one strikeout. White falls to 1-5 on the season. Sophomore Ashley Katinas closed out the game on the mound with a scoreless sixth inning, facing three batters.
Middle Tennessee returns to action on Friday as the Blue Raiders face Wisconsin at 1 p.m. and Pacific at 7 p.m.
