TUCSON, Ariz. - Just one day after stringing together 22 runs in two games, Middle Tennessee softball (2-6) failed to push a run across against Texas Tech (6-3), falling to the Red Raiders 6-0 Saturday at the Worth Wildcat Tournament.
It is the third time in just eight games, to start the season the Blue Raiders have been shutout. Freshman lefty hurler Lindsey Vander Lugt made her eighth appearance in a game and her sixth start taking the loss and falling to 1-3. The Olympia, Wash. native tossed six innings allowing all six runs on 10 hits and struck out three. The youngster has shown control, as in her 31.0 innings pitched she has only allowed three walks. Sam Floyd came into the game in relief in the seventh inning.
Texas Tech got on the board in the bottom of the first inning scoring a run off an RBI single by Montana Patin. The score would remain 1-0 for three innings until the Red Raiders exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Middle Tennessee had runners in scoring position five times, although none advanced past second base, and failed to score a run. The Blue Raiders had just four hits in the game and drew three walks. Ashley Cline, Muriel Ledbetter, Whitney Darlington and Martha Davis each had one hit in the game. Cline also stole her sixth base of the season.
Although the Blue Raiders were scheduled to face host 4th ranked Arizona at 6 p.m. the tournament is running behind. The game will begin after the Wildcats' game with Virginia.
