MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee will return to the Murphy Center for the first time in nearly a month when it plays host to Western Kentucky in the Sun Belt Conference opener for both schools in women's basketball action at 2 p.m. Sunday.
The Blue Raiders recently completed a three-game road trip, which was highlighted by a 94-84 victory at defending national runner-up Louisville Dec. 9. Middle Tennessee knocked down a school record 20 3-pointers in the triumph.
Redshirt senior All-American Alysha Clark was tabbed the Sun Belt Player of the Week for Dec. 15, her second weekly league honor of the season, after pacing the squad with 23.0 ppg and 12.5 rpg in the two Blue Raider games last week. Her accolade is the eighth of her MT career, setting a school record.
Middle Tennessee brings a 4-4 record into Sunday's contest. The Blue Raiders are 7-2 in league openers since joining the conference in 2000-01.
Western Kentucky owns a 5-4 mark thus far in 2009-10. The Lady Toppers are led in scoring by Amy McNear (10.8 ppg) and rebounding by Arnika Brown (10.8 rpg).
