CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Middle Tennessee softball team fell 8-2 to the Ball State Cardinals in the first game of the team's second-day doubleheader at the 2010 Under Armour Showcase in Clearwater, Fla.
Janele Robinson took her first loss as a Blue Raider dropping to 1-1 overall. The Toledo, Ill., native tossed 3.1 innings of work with one strikeout allowing seven runs, five earned, off of 11 hits. Lindsey would come in for Robinson in the fourth finishing the game with 2.2 innings, one hit, one unearned run and two strikeouts.
Kelsey Dortch put the Blue Raiders on the scoreboard in the top of the first doubling down the leftfield line. She was driven in on a Natalie Ysais double down the leftfield line who was then pushed home off a Jessi Couch double.
The Cardinals would answer in the second using speed to move runners into scoring position. Freshman pitcher Janele Robinson battled through a bases loaded jam with one out. She would strikeout the next before inducing a right field fly-out to Corrie Abel to end the inning with the Raider still on out top 2-1.
Caitlin McLure tallied her 11th and 12th stolen bases of the season giving her 57 for her career. She trails Kip Philips by two for second most all-time by a Blue Raider in program history.
BSU hit through the order in the bottom half of the third scoring five runs off of five hits and two Blue Raider errors making the score 6-2.
Middle Tennessee could not muster the offense in the next three innings to mount the needed comeback and fell 8-2.
The Blue Raiders will play one final contest against Central Michigan before returning from the 2010 Under Armour Showcase. Livestats and full coverage will be available on GoBlueRaiders.com.
