Softball falls 8-5 to ULM

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee softball team put together a solid offensive showing, but ultimately lost to Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday afternoon, 8-5. The team fell to 12-15 on the season, 3-6 in Sun Belt play.
In the loss, the Blue Raiders scored five runs off nine hits, allowing two errors and leaving five runners on base. ULM scored eight runs off 15 hits with one error, leaving 10 runners on base.
Lindsey Vander Lugt took her 10th loss of the season throwing all 7.0 innings, striking out five batters, giving up eight runs, all earned off 15 hits.
"Lindsey has pitched well for us all season," said head coach Sue Nevar. "Unfortunately, today was not her best performance and we could not get the series win."
Jessica Ives scored the first run for the Middle Tennessee. She came around from first on a Kristi Marquez double to right-centerfield. This was Marquez's fourth RBI on the year and second of the series.
The Warhawks' bats came alive third, scoring four runs taking a 5-1 lead.
The Blue Raiders answered in the bottom half of the frame, scoring two runs. Corrie Abel scored on a Kelsey Dortch double to deep center. A Natalie Ysais single pushed home Dortch home on a right field to move the score to 5-3.
Following a pair of ULM runs in the fourth, Jessi Couch smashed her third homerun of the season. The ball just cleared the glove of the outstretched Warhawk outfielder to give her eight RBIs on the year. Later in the inning, Dortch would tack on her second RBI of the game as Brittney Banania came home on a broken play making it 7-5. Dortch now has seven RBIs on the year. Louisiana-Monroe would add one more run making the final score 8-5.
The Blue Raiders return to action Tuesday as they take on the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns in a conference series. The first game of the doubleheader will begin at 2 p.m. with the second game immediately following. Full results will be available on GoBlueRaiders.com.
