MOBILE, Ala. - The Middle Tennessee softball team could not capitalize on the excellent pitching of Lindsey Vander Lugt and fell in a Sun Belt Tournament elimination game to ULM on Friday. The Blue Raiders end the 2010 season 22-32 overall with a conference record of 7-17.
In the loss, the Blue Raiders had three hits, one error and left four runners on base. ULM's single run came off four hits with the team allowing one error while leaving six runners on base.
Vander Lugt was superb in her final game for Middle Tennessee, totally four strikeouts and one earned run in a complete game of work. She finishes her senior campaign 20-21 with a 2.36 ERA and 212 strikeouts in 246.2. The Olympia, Wash., native goes down as the second most prolific pitcher in MT history with the second most wins and strikeouts. She also has more starts, inning pitched and appearances than any other Blue Raider pitcher.
ULM's Brianna Love led off the game with a solo-shot home run to give the Warhawks a 1-0 lead. This would be the only scoring of the contest. It was Love's second game winning home run of the tournament.
Tried as they might, the Blue Raiders made strong contact at the plate, but could not find the holes to capitalize for hits. Corrie Abel recorded one hit and finishes the season with the top average on the Middle Tennessee roster, .347.
