No. 35 Blue Raiders pick up key road victory

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Middle Tennessee's men's tennis team picked up a key 5-2 road victory over No. 55 Cal Poly on Monday, the first day of its spring break trip.
MT now sits at 11-5 in duals, while CP is 6-4.
The Blue Raiders took the doubles point, winning the second and third flights, and never relinquished the lead. After Yannick Born and Marlon Brand fell in Flight 1 doubles, Christoph Lang and David Fox defeated Naveen Beasley and Jurgen De Jager, 8-6
The 35th ranked pair of Ben Davis and Victor Cornea then topped CP's Matt Thomson and Marco Comuzzo, 8-5 to clinch the point.
In singles, No. 92 Davis fell in the first match, 1-6, 2-6, to No. 32 Andre Dome, but Born would regain the lead for the Blue Raiders with a 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 victory over Comuzzo in Flight 3 singles.
CP retied the match at 2-2 when Jordan Bridge picked up a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, win over Lang, but the Mustangs wouldn't win another point.
Cornea defeated Derek Klein, 6-4, 6-3 in the fifth flight, while Fox's 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 defeat of Beasley clinched the match for the Blue Raiders.
Ettore Zito won the final match of the day, splitting the first two sets with De Jager, 5-7, 6-2, but ended up with the win after De Jager retired at 2-2 in the third due to injury.
"I'm proud of the guys and how they did today," Head Coach Jimmy Borendame said. "They picked up a great win over a very strong ranked team on the road."
The Blue Raiders continue their road trip on Friday, March 15 with 1 p.m. CT dual against the University of San Diego.
