MT to take on Southern Miss and Rice

Raiders travel to play Golden Eagles and Owls
MURFREESBORO – Middle Tennessee heads back on the road this weekend as they will travel to Hattiesburg, Miss. to take on the Southern Miss Golden Eagles Friday, followed by a trip to Houston to take on the Rice Owls Sunday.
Southern Miss is currently tied for third in the Conference USA standings, boasting a 3-1 conference record as they are 16-5 overall. Stephany Purdue is coming off a week in which she won co-Offensive player of the week in C-USA while teammate Mary Pursell brought home defensive player of the week honors.
The Golden Eagles have several players ranked in C-USA and national standings, with Purdue leading the way. The junior from Mesa, Ariz. is fourth in the conference and tied for 36th in the nation with 4.15 kills per set. She has also racked up 336 total kills, good enough for second in the country.
Pursell has been great on the back row so far as she is third in C-USA with 4.48 digs per set and ranks fifth nationally with 376 total digs. Kylie Grandy has also been impressive from the service line as she has earned 38 service aces, good enough for third in the country. Grandy's 0.45 service aces per set lead C-USA and rank her 31st in the nation in that category.
Middle Tennessee is 3-1 all-time against the Golden Eagles. The Raiders have taken the last three matches in a row, and haven't lost to Southern Miss since joining C-USA. Match-time is scheduled for 6pm at Reed Green Coliseum.
On Sunday MT will be in Houston to take on Rice. The Owls are tied with Southern Miss in the conference standings at 3-1, but are only 13-5 overall.
Portia Okafor is fifth in C-USA in hitting percentage at .357 and teammate McKay Kyle cracks the list in 8th with a hitting percentage of .335. Okafor also leads C-USA with a 1.23 blocks per set average and her 86 total blocks tie her with Southern Miss's Elise Ames for 10th in the country.
The Owls front line is deep as well as Leah Mikesky is eighth in C-USA with 3.51 kills per set and her 3.82 points per set also rank her 8th in the conference. Madison McDaniel is proving to be one of the league's top passers as her 10.82 assists per set lead C-USA.
First serve is set for 1pm Sunday in Tudor Fieldhouse at Rice University. The Raiders will look to snap a two-match losing streak to the Owls as they lost both matches last year.
