Raiders in with win over Marshall
MURFREESBORO – Middle Tennessee (8-21, 6-9) has everything to play for on Senior Day Saturday as they host Marshall (15-13, 6-9) at Alumni Memorial Gym at 4 p.m.
Out of 13 teams in Conference USA, only two do not currently know their C-USA Tournament fate. Those two teams will face off in an epic, one-game, win and you're in, match Saturday in Murfreesboro.
The Blue Raiders dropped a four set match to the Thundering Herd in Huntingdon earlier this season. However, it was one of the more competitive matches for MT this season as each team scored at least 20 points in each of the frames.
Marshall took set one 25-20 before MT came back to even the match by taking the second 25-21. The Herd then finished off the Raiders with wins of 25-23 and 25-22 in frames three and four respectively. Chelsea Ross led MT with 22 kills as Marshall's Cassie Weaver matched her 22 kills and added a team-high 19 digs.
Delaney Taylor will hope to be back to form as she earned a match-high 43 assists as teammate Jacqueline Lux had a match-high 23 digs.
Marshall's front row has been led in large part this season by Ally Kiekover who's second in C-USA in hitting percentage with .397. Kayla Simmons has 9.27 assists per set this season, good enough for seventh in the conference. Sitting in eighth with 3.39 kills per set is Weaver as Allie Kellerman controls the back row with 4.71 digs per set, good enough for second in C-USA.
The Raiders boast some impressive numbers as well as the only one better than Ross in kills per set and points per set is Player of the Year candidate Carnae Dillard. Ross is second in both categories with 4.72 kills per set and 5.16 points per set. Rachel Shaughnessy has been consistent on the front row with a .368 hitting percentage to place her fourth in C-USA. Delaney Taylor still holds at 10th in the conference just shy of eight assists per set at 7.70. Jacqueline Lux is also still sixth in C-USA with 4.11 digs per set.
