MT Faces Rival WKU Saturday
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – First place in the C-USA standings will be on the line when Middle Tennessee faces rival WKU at Diddle Arena Saturday. Tipoff is 2 p.m.
League coaches believed these two teams would contend for the league title in the preseason and they have been proven right.
Defending champion Middle Tennessee was the preseason favorite of league coaches to repeat with WKU picked second. The Blue Raiders (18-6, 12-2) are in first place by one-half game over WKU (22-4, 11-2) entering Saturday's showdown. It will be on the only regular-season game between the two foes.
The matchup pits the league's top two scoring teams with WKU averaging 77.1 points per game and Middle Tennessee averaging 74. The game also features four of the top six scorers in C-USA. Blue Raiders Olivia Jones (20.3) and Cheyenne Parker (18.8) are first and second in the league scoring race, respectively.
Preseason Player of the Year Chastity Gooch, Alexi Govan and Kendall Noble lead the Lady Hilltoppers and are in the top six in scoring in C-USA.
Middle Tennessee has dominated the series of late and leads 32-23 overall (since 1976). The Blue Raiders have won 12 straight and 16 of the 19 of the games Head Coach Rick Insell has coached against the Lady Hilltoppers.
Middle Tennessee and WKU have been league rivals in three conferences, including OVC, Sun Belt and C-USA.
