Raiders' Seven-Inning Lead Not Enough
Each team connected on three home runs in the contest. Jared Allen (2-for-5) and Austin Bryant (1-for-4) each produced solo blasts in the second to put MT up 2-0.
Ronnie Jebavy (2-for-5) stayed hot at the plate and made it 6-2 Raiders after leading off the fifth with a solo shot.
Tyler Troutt was effective in his second start, limiting the potent Vandy offense to two runs on five hits over a career-high five innings.
Troutt made quick work of the Commodores early on by inducing inning-ending double plays in the opening two frames.
The Blue Raiders went up 5-1 in the fourth when they plated three runs on four hits. After loading the bases, Kaleb King beat out an RBI infield single with one out and Dustin Delgado delivered a clutch two-out RBI single that plated two more.
The MT bullpen finally ran out of steam following a huge workload last weekend and couldn't hold the lead.
The visitors scored three in the sixth on just one hit, and went through the order in the eighth. Vandy's Karl Ellison and Jeren Kendall sent back-to-back long balls over the right field fence to start the big inning.
The Commodores out-hit the Blue Raiders 15-9. MT left seven men on base and committed one error.
The Blue Raiders are still seeking their first midweek win of the season and will have another shot Wednesday night. MT will host Lipscomb at 6 p.m. in non-conference action. RHP Heath Slatton will look to right the ship in his sixth start.
