THE STORYLINE
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee (16-10, 8-1 C-USA) completes a six-game homestand Tuesday when it hosts Austin Peay (14-10, 8-4 OVC) at 6 p.m. Fans can purchase tickets for $2 as the midweek contest also features $2 specials on hot dogs and drinks.
The Blue Raiders are winners of three straight after sweeping Old Dominion over the weekend, but enter tomorrow's contest winless in five midweek games. A win over Austin Peay would snap that streak and give MT a 4-2 record during the homestand. It would also boost momentum for the upcoming showdown at No. 14 Rice this weekend.
Junior LHP Tyler Troutt (0-1, 4.05 ERA) gets the ball for his third midweek start. Troutt held No. 2 Vanderbilt's potent offense in check last Tuesday, surrendering just two runs on five hits across five innings of work. He left the game with a 6-2 lead.
Senior Ronnie Jebavy was named C-USA Hitter of the Week on Monday and has hit safely in all but three games this season. Jebavy (.389, 2 HR, 15 RBI) leads MT in eight offensive categories and leads the league with 15 steals on 16 attempts.
As a team, MT is batting .274 with 46 doubles and 15 home runs. Senior Jared Allen hit two long balls last week and leads with six, while senior Michael Adkins is tied with Allen for a team-high 25 RBIs. Sophomore Brad Jarreau holds steady at the top of the lineup with a solid .330 average.
The Blue Raiders are 15-4 when totaling more than six hits and have posted an overall record of 10-4 at home this season.
Pitching wise, MT has lowered its team ERA to 4.38 and is limiting opposing batters to a .260 average against.
Austin Peay enters Tuesday night's game 14-10 overall and fresh off a weekend sweep of Tennessee Tech. The Governors are hitting .303 as a team, led by Logan Gray (.345, 4 HR, 12 RBI, 10 2B) and Garrett Copeland (.356, 11 RBI, 23 R, 9 SB). On the mound, Austin Peay is struggling a bit with a 5.04 ERA and have allowed 218 hits in 209 innings.
