Play Memphis Tues. & Weds. Night
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee travels to the western half of the state this week for a pair of games against non-conference rival Memphis. The Blue Raiders and Tigers will meet at FedEx Park in Memphis Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. and the two schools will travel to Jackson for a 6:30 p.m. neutral-site contest at the Ballpark at Jackson on Wednesday.
The Blue Raiders (8-4) are coming off a walk-off win over Iowa, but dropped their first series of the season last weekend. Iowa swept Saturday's doubleheader 2-1 and 6-1, before the Raiders erased a five-run deficit in the ninth inning to win game three 9-8.
Senior LF Jared Allen and senior INF Jake Ingold (walk-off grand slam) each homered in Sunday's win, as junior CF Ronnie Jebavy tripled and doubled. Senior SS Dustin Delgado was taken out of the leadoff spot for the first time in 68 career starts, and inserted into the three-hole where he extended his reached-base streak to 27 games dating back to last season.
Junior RHP Heath Slatton will get the nod on the mound Tuesday night. Slatton is 1-2 with a 15.75 ERA and six strikeouts in his first three starts this season. MT's Wednesday starter will be announced after Tuesday's game.
Memphis (4-4) played its first game in over a week on Monday, falling by a final score of 8-4 to Samford. The two teams were scheduled to play over the weekend but inclement weather caused the postponement.
The Tigers are hitting for an average of .258 at the plate, while posting 3.8 runs per game and 8.4 hits per contest. Head coach Daron Schoenrock will start senior LHP Caleb Wallingford (1-1, 2.25 ERA) on Tuesday.
The Blue Raiders hold the narrow advantage in the all-time series against the Tigers, 43-41, while the teams have split each two-game series over the past four years.
Jake Rose will have the call for both games on the Blue Raider Network at 92.5 WMOT2 and goblueraiders.com, with the broadcasts beginning at 6:15 p.m.
Discounted tickets are available online for Wednesday's game in Jackson. Visit www.jacksongeneralsbaseball.com and select the game from the tickets page, then enter special code: "RAIDERS" to get the discounted rate.
Following the midweek series, Middle Tennessee will host its opening Conference USA series over the weekend against UAB.
