Blue Raiders Head to the Queen City to Face Charlotte

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee softball team (13-17, 1-11 C-USA) will travel to Charlotte, N.C., this weekend for a three-game series at Charlotte (18-15 , 5-4 C-USA), beginning with doubleheader starting on Friday at 1 p.m.

About the Blue Raiders
Last Time Out
The Blue Raiders hung on for a 6-5 victory at Belmont on Wednesday for their 10th straight win at Rose Park. Senior Samantha Nieves went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, two runs scored and a double. Senior Caitlin McClure surpassed last season's win total with her fourth win of the season tossing 3.1 innings inside the circle. Sophomore Megan Chocallo came in for her first save of her career after putting in 1.1 innings, securing the win for MT in the final inning when two batters reached base with two outs before Chocallo forced the final out.
When MT...
The Blue Raiders are now 10-3 during the season when scoring six or more runs after last night's victory over Belmont. MT also improved to 5-2 in one-run games.
Improvement for Riddell
After going 2-for-2 with a double in Wednesday's victory, the sophomore is hitting .364 on the season while notching a hit in 12 of the 17 games she's played in. Overall, she has improved tremendously from last season, improving her batting average by over 100 points and already starting more games than she did all of last season.
With Runners in Scoring Position
MT is hitting .352 this season when threatening to score while three players are hitting over .400 with runners are on second or third. Juniors Kiarra Freeman (.464) and Carlie Jenkins (.444) along with senior Samantha Nieves (.423) lead the way.
Scouting the Opponent
Charlotte (18-15, 5-4 C-USA) – 3rd C-USA East
The 49ers, led by 21st-year head coach Aimee Devos, are off to a 5-4 start in league play while most recently sweeping North Carolina Central in a doubleheader on Wednesday. The 49ers have won their last two league series against Louisiana Tech and Marshall. UNCC owns a record of 10-4 at home this season. The 49ers are fifth in C-USA with a team ERA of 3.42 and are led by Lexi Betancourt, who has an ERA of 2.86 with 12 wins. Jessica Plemons paces the Charlotte offense with a .321 average and a team-high 28 RBIs. Chelsea Lisikatos has belted a team-high nine home runs this season.
