Box Season Stats C-USA only
MURFREESBORO – Different day, new star for the exhilarating Middle Tennessee baseball team.
Austin Bryant delivered a walk-off single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to score Jared Allen with the winning run in a thrilling 5-4 triumph against rival WKU. It marked Middle Tennessee's eighth win in its final at-bat and enabled the Blue Raiders (27-20, 17-6) to win the series and remain in first place in the C-USA standings. They will go for the series sweep Sunday.
Down to their final strike, the Blue Raiders came off of the deck to stun the Hilltoppers (23-22, 9-14) for the second straight game. Middle Tennessee improved to 10-1 at Reese Smith Jr., Field in C-USA games this season.
WKU had blown a 3-0 lead but regained the advantage, 4-3, in the top of the ninth and the Hilltoppers were on the verge of evening the series until Allen did what standout seniors do – he picked up a teammate and delivered with the game on the line.
Brad Jarreau, who has been sizzling, opened the bottom of the ninth with a leadoff single and moved to second on a perfect sacrifice from Dustin Delgado. After Ronnie Jebavy popped out for the second out it came down to Allen with two outs.
Allen fell behind in the count but with two strikes protected the plate and was just looking for a way to put the ball in play. He was aptly rewarded.
Allen pushed an opposite field single to right field and Jarreau rounded third and headed home for what was going to be a close play. WKU right fielder Trevor Lowe's throw to the plate beat Jarreau but the heady right fielder side stepped the catcher and touched the plate before he could be tagged for the tying run.
Allen stole second and Jake Ingold walked to put runners at first and second and set the stage for Bryant and his late-inning heroics. Bryant ripped a slider into right center for the game-winning RBI.
Middle Tennessee pounded out 12 hits for the second straight game with four hitters delivering multi-hit performances. Ingold led the way with a 3-for-4 effort, while Jarreau (2-for-5, 2 runs, 1 RBI, double), Dustin Delgado (2-for-4, RBI, double), and Bryant (2-for-4, 2 RBI) all had multiple hits.
Kevin Dupree had a double and Will Schnure also started a rally with a hit in the seventh.
Nate Hoffmann earned the start and took a no-decision. He worked five innings, scattered three hits and allowed three runs. Two of the three hits Hoffmann allowed were home runs. Relief pitcher Sam Alton was outstanding in relief. Alton worked three innings and allowed two hits and one run before giving way to Blake Stanberry (4-1), who worked one inning and earned the win.
The game came down to another fantastic finish because Middle Tennessee could never sustain a big inning against Hilltopper starter Brennan Pearson, who scattered seven hits and allowed three earned run in 6-1/3 innings of work. It was Pearson's second career start.

Bryant continued his strong weekend with a two-out single to plate Allen with Middle Tennessee's first run and cut the deficit to 3-1.
They weren't finished there.

With the game hanging in the balance, WKU relief pitcher Kevin Elder rose to the occasion. He got Dupree to fly out and then struck out Kaleb King and Schnure to leave the runners stranded and keep the game tied.
WKU regained the lead with one run in the top of the ninth but the Hilltopper couldn't close the deal against the never-say-die Blue Raiders.
