Men’s Tennis to Host Doubleheader

No. 62 Iowa and Alabama A&M on the docket for MT
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee men's tennis will look to improve on their 5-2 record when they face No. 62 Iowa and Alabama A&M in a doubleheader on Feb. 14 at noon.
The Hawkeyes enter the match on Sunday with a record of 4-1, with two wins coming against ranked teams. Iowa started the season with a 7-0 sweep of Utah State, ranked No. 70 at the time. No. 34 Princeton gave Iowa its only loss of the season so far, with a 6-1 win in the first matchup of the Big Ten vs. Ivy Challenge on Jan. 30. No. 47 Cornell was defeated by the Hawkeyes, 4-2, in another Big Ten vs. Ivy matchup the next day.
Both teams will bring a three-game win streak to the Adams Tennis Complex for their showdown at noon.
In the second match of the doubleheader, Alabama A&M will face the Blue Raiders to begin their 2016 season. The Bulldogs do not have any results posted from the 2015 campaign. They were 1-15 in 2014, winning only 4 points the entire season. Alabama A&M head coach Willis Mbandi has five freshmen and one junior on his roster.
Three Blue Raiders have posted 6-1 records in singles play on the season, freshmen Ayed Zatar Cordero and Gonzalo Morell Raschiatore as well as sophomore Miguel Negre Fernandez. MT is 29-10 in singles action as a team this season.
In doubles play, the Blue Raiders are one game under .500, 9-10. Morell and Zatar have provided a spark, going 4-1 overall in doubles, with three wins coming at the No. 1 spot.
Admission to all home matches is free, and there will be free candy and cookies for the doubleheader vs. Iowa and Alabama A&M.
