MT looks to the spring after concluding fall slate

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Middle Tennessee's men's tennis team spent three days at the Tribe Invitational for a hidden dual weekend to close out the fall season and look ahead to a promising spring 2018 season.
The Blue Raiders were 9-3 in singles action as a team and 4-2 in doubles. Miguel Negre Fernandez paired up with Gonzalo Morell Raschiatore in doubles, and Tom Moonen worked with Jan Porteset. Both of MT's doubles combos were 2-1 on the weekend, with both winning on Saturday against opponents from VCU.
Negre and Morell finished the weekend with an unblemished record in singles play, 3-0. Negre opened the weekend with a three-set win over William & Mary, followed by a pair of straight set wins on Saturday and Sunday over Richmond and Harvard. He only gave up seven games in his final two matches of the weekend.
Morell took on an opponent from William & Mary on Friday to start the event with a come-from-behind win in three sets. He followed that up with a straight set win over VCU on Saturday and a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Harvard's Jean Thirouin.
After a loss on the first day of competition, Moonen rebounded to claim a straight set win over VCU on Saturday. Against Harvard to finish the event, he took down Logan Weber in three sets, 6-7 (4), 6-1, 6-1.
Porteset wrapped up his first and only fall as a Blue Raider with a 1-3 mark in singles play over the weekend. The Trier, Germany, native took a win over Alec Miller of William & Mary on the Friday, 7-6, 6-2.
The Blue Raiders will open their spring season on Jan. 15 at the Adams Tennis Complex in Murfreesboro against Austin Peay and Chattanooga, starting at 11 a.m.
