Raiders Drop Two Close Games at FAU

Game 1 – FAU 5, MT 4 (9) – Box Score
The Owls struck first in game one, getting a two out rally going in the bottom of the first. Emily Lochten lifted a home run over the right centerfield wall to make it 1-0. Then, back-to-back singles on the ground to left followed by a double to center gave FAU a 2-0 lead.
In the top of the third, the Raiders cut the Owls lead in half. MT was able to load the bases as Kristin Uselton led off with a single back up the middle, Deja Portillo walked and then Summer Burgess layed down a bunt that the Owls could not handle. Up next, Precious Birdsong singled to right field to bring Uselton across and make it 2-1.
FAU answered back in the bottom half of the inning as Lochten reached on a walk and then scored on a double to left center to retake a two-run lead, 3-1.
In the fifth the Raiders loaded the bases again as Kaylyn Slatter reached on a fielder's choice, Keely McGee was walked and Munoz was hit by a pitch. Then, Uselton delivered with a two out single to right center to tie the game up at three apiece.
The Owls answered again as they retook the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Lochten reached on a single to left and came around to score on a double down the left field line.
MT came back to tie the game again in the top of the sixth. Burgess started off the inning with an infield single and advanced to second on a throwing error. She then moved to third on a single from Morgan Harris. Austyn Whaley was credited with the RBI as she lifted a ball to deep left field and Burgess was able to tag up and make it even at fours.
In the top of the seventh, McGee got a leadoff double down the right field line and then moved to third on a sacrifice bunt but she was left stranded and the game remained knotted at 4-4.
The Owls threatened to win it in the bottom half of the inning but Gretchen Greer recorded two strikeouts in relief to push the game to extra innings.
Burgess and Birdsong led off those extra innings with singles but were left stranded as the Raiders couldn't muster another hit.
In the bottom of eight, the Owls got a one out walk and the runner was able to make her way to third on a stolen base and a ground out. However, a fly out to McGee in right center pushed the game to the ninth.
Florida Atlantic led off the bottom of nine with a triple to right center and then was able to win it, 5-4, on a sacrifice fly to left center field.
Greer took the loss, coming in in relief, despite striking out four. Uselton was 2-for-4 at the plate and had 2 RBI.
Game Two - FAU 3, MT 2 – Box Score
Birdsong got a rally started in the first inning of game two. She chopped a single over the pitchers head, Harris followed by sending a ball past the diving second baseman. Austyn Whaley then sent a ball to the fence in left field to give MT a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the third the Owls came back to tie the game. A leadoff bunt single followed by a stolen base, another bunt single and finally a ground out to third off the bat of Delaney Rickey brought the run home.
The Owls took the lead in the bottom of the fourth. With one out, FAU got two infield singles to put two aboard with one out and then a single to right field pushed a run across to make it 2-1. In the circle, Cori Jennings recorded two strikeouts to put the rally to rest.
In the top of the sixth, the Raiders tied the game at two apiece. Birdsong led off with a bunt single and then stole second. She came around to score as Harris sent a ball to right field.
Not wanting extras again, the Owls won the game in a walk-off in the bottom of the seventh. Mia Olson lifted a one out double to the fence in left center and then moved to third on a ground out and scored on a single through the left side from Alex Miller to win it, 3-2.
Jennings took the complete game loss in the circle to move to 7-12 on the year, she struck out six.
Birdsong was 3-for-3 in the effort, scoring both of MT's runs while Harris went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
The Raiders return for a single game tomorrow at Florida Atlantic with game time set for 1pm EST/12pm CST.
