It was the final mid-week game of the season
The Blue Raiders (22-30), could not mount a comeback after the Commodores (31-21) put up a five runs in the third inning.
Vandy needed one pitch to get on the board, ripping a home run to right field on the first pitch of the game. After the first pitch, MT held VU in check over the next two innings.
The Blue Raiders bounced back in the third, sparked by a one-out single by Blake Benefield, the first MT hit of the game. Freshman Aaron Antonini followed
Benefield with his third double of the season, crushing one to the wall in right putting runners on second and third.
The always-reliable Riley Delgado, stepped to the plate and delivered with an RBI-single back up the middle.
The score was tied 1-1 heading into the bottom of the third.
Vandy responded with a five-spot in the inning to go up 6-1. The 'Dores added another seven runs over the next three innings.
MT scored three runs in the eighth, thanks to four VU walks and an Aaron Aucker RBI-single.
In the ninth, freshman Elliott Curtis earned his first-career RBI, with a single thru the right side after Antonini hit his first-career triple to start the inning. Chase Hensley also picked up his first double and RBI driving in two runs.
MT starter Tyler Hasper (0-3) was tagged with the loss, while Vandy starter Matt Ruppenthal (2-2) earned the win, throwing six innings.
Delgado finished 2-of-2 with a run and RBI in the game. Antonini tied a career-high, going 3-of-4, while being a home run shy of the cycle.
The Blue Raiders are back in action Thursday for their final three games of the season, taking on Louisiana Tech at Reese Smith Jr. Field.
