Tip set for 2 PM Sunday
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Most exhibition games are dress rehearsals to prepare players for the upcoming season; however, the competition may not always be up to par.
That will not be the case when Middle Tennessee plays Lindsey Wilson in an exhibition game at Murphy Center Sunday at 2 p.m. The visitors from Columbia, Ky., are a perennial NAIA power. Lindsey Wilson is ranked 13th in the NAIA National Preseason Top 25 poll.
"Lindsey Wilson is a quality program and a traditional power in NAIA so it is a good opponent that will give us a good test," Lady Raider Head Coach Rick Insell said. "To be honest, I am more concerned about us. We haven't scouted for Lindsey Wilson or anything like that. I am more interested in seeing our players get on the court and execute our offenses and play sound defense."
This is the first of two scheduled exhibition games for the Lady Raiders, who will play host to Trevecca on Oct. 31 at 6:30 p.m. The two games should provide Insell with an opportunity to utilize different combinations and continue to identify how minutes will be distributed.
The Lady Raiders feature a nice blend of experience and newcomers with nine returners and six new players in the fold. The newcomers include four freshmen (Mykia Dowdell, Taylor Sutton, Alexis Whittington, Amanda Whittington), and two transfers (A'Queen Hayes, Ra'Shika White). Many of these heralded newcomers are expected to make an immediate impact.
Middle Tennessee returns four seniors who have been in the program together from the outset. Katie Collier, Alex Johnson, Jess Louro and Jordan Majors are the leaders of the experienced bunch, while junior Charity Savage and sophomores Kyla Allison, Jadona Davis and Anna Jones should bolster this deep Lady Raider squad.
