SERIES HISTORY
» This marks the first meeting in series history between the Blue Raiders and Friars.
» MTSU is 8-6 all-time against teams in the current Big East, with its most recent win coming against DePaul in the 2023-24 Women's Battle 4 Atlantis.
BLUE RAIDER NOTES
» MTSU enters the matchup coming off of a 41-85 setback to 13th-ranked Tennessee. A pair of Blue Raiders scored double figures, including a career high 18 points from Savannah Davis. This marks just the fourth time in Coach Insell's career that MTSU has dropped three consecutive games.
» The Blue Raiders are 84-66 all-time in in-season tournaments and are 24-13 under Head Coach Rick Insell in in-season tournaments
» MTSU has enjoyed great success on neutral site courts under Head Coach Rick Insell. The Blue Raiders are 121-79 (60.7 percent) overall and 58-27 under Coach Insell, for a 69.1 percent winning ledger.
» Middle Tennessee is one of only a handful of Division I programs that do not feature a single returning starter on the roster. According to available national data, Santa Clara is the only program in the country bringing in more newcomers while also returning zero starters.
» Senior Alayna Contreras was selected to the CUSA Preseason All-Conference Team. The Minneapolis, Minn., native started all 33 games last year and led UMKC in scoring (17.3 ppg), minutes, field goals made, three-pointers made and free throws made.
» Middle Tennessee was picked third in the CUSA preseason poll. This marks only the sixth time in Rick Insell's 21 seasons — and just the fourth time in CUSA — that the Blue Raiders have not been selected as the preseason favorite.
SCOUTING THE FRIARS
» Providence enters the matchup with a 4-1, 0-0 Big East record. The Friars are coming off a 75-64 win over Yale.
» The Friars are leading the BIG EAST in scoring defense (55.6 ppg) and field-goal percentage defense (.343) through five games. The Friars have held two opponents to 45-points or less. Additionally, Providence has held each of its five opponents below 40-percent shooting from the field.
» Sabou Gueye is the lone Friar to reach double digits in the scoring column in all five games this season. She leads the team with an average of 18.2 points per game. Five other players on the roster have reached double figures, including Teneisia Brown (two), Payton Dunbar (two), Sophi Hall (one), Orlagh Gormley (one) and Audrey Shields (one).
» The Friars have reloaded their roster for the 2025-26 season after losing 10 players to graduation (seven seniors and three graduate students). Junior Sophi Hall and sophomores Orlagh Gormley and Audrey Shields are the only returning players on the roster that previously saw game action in a Friar uniform. The remainder of this year's roster is made up of five transfer student-athletes, five true freshmen and one red-shirt freshman.
