Score 101 in 50-point triumph
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee put forth its most prolific offensive performances in three-plus seasons when it throttled visiting Mississippi Valley State, 101-51, at Murphy Center Wednesday night.
The 101 points marked the first time the Lady Raiders (3-2) reached the century mark since putting up 101 against Florida Atlantic, Jan. 10, 2015 – a span of 124 games.
All but one of the 13 Lady Raiders scored in the victory with four reaching double figures.
"We hit shots tonight," Lady Raider Head Coach Rick Insell said. "We are a team capable of scoring 100-plus, and I don't think this is the only time you will see that this season. When your shots are falling good things tend to happen and that was the case tonight."
Middle Tennessee blistered the nets to the tune of 59.4 percent (41-of-69) from the field overall, including a sizzling 42.9 percent (12-of-28) from 3-point range.
Alex Johnson netted a game-high 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting in 19 minutes of action, while Anna Jones was also on fire from outside. Jones poured in 17 points, pulled five rebounds and dished out four assists in just 17 minutes. Jones was 5-of-7 from beyond the arc, including five straight makes.
Joining Johnson and Jones in double figures were Taylor Sutton (13) and LaSonja Edwards, who turned in a career-high 12 points on 6-of-6 shooting. She also had four rebounds. Kyla Allison (9), A'Queen Hayes (8), Charity Savage (7), Jordan Majors (6), Alexis Whittington (5), Jess Louro (2), Katie Collier (2) and Amanda Whittington (2) also factored into the high-scoring affair for the Lady Raiders.
Middle Tennessee was once against dominant on the boards winning the rebounding battle for the fifth time in fifth games. The Lady Raiders ripped 46 rebounds with Hayes' eight leading the way. The Lady Raiders also had a season-high 21 assists with Sutton and Jones providing four each, while Allison and Majors dished out three each.
The Lady Raiders established themselves early and led 54-17 at the intermission on the way to the 50-point triumph.
Middle Tennessee will not have long to enjoy the win as it will travel to Las Vegas and begin play in the UNLV Lady Rebel Roundup beginning Saturday.
