KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – A strong round on day two of the East Bay Deli Classic was thwarted once again by a late stumble, but the Blue Raiders remain in a good spot as they sit tied for sixth through 36 holes at Turtle Point Golf Course.
Middle Tennessee turned in a 5-over par 293 on Monday, shaving seven strokes off their round one score to move up three spots despite going 7-over on the final four holes of the day.
"For the second day in a row we had it in position to shoot a good number and just did not close it out," Head Coach Mark McEntire said. "I was encouraged with what I saw and if we can keep getting it in position we will push through. Our plan is to leave it all out there tomorrow."
The Raiders (300-293=593) are tied with William & Mary at 17-over par while fifth place Augusta is eight strokes ahead at 9-over par.
Junior Tanner Owens logged another under par round on Monday, his fourth of the season, firing a 2-under 70 to sit in third place at 3-under (71-70=141) after 36 holes. He is two strokes behind individual leaders Isaiah Jackson of Memphis and Logan Sowell of College of Charleston with 18 holes remaining.
"Congratulations to Tanner on another great round today," McEntire added. "The conditions were very tough and he played solid which has him in position to contend tomorrow."
Senior James Beckner was also strong again on Monday as was freshman Palmer Sadlowski with the pair carding matching rounds 1-over par 73 on day two. Beckner is tied for 13th in the field while Sadlowski has moved up 14 spots into a tie for 30th.
The Blue Raiders tee off in an 8:00 a.m. CT shotgun start on Tuesday alongside Augusta, William & Mary and Jacksonville State.
