Lady Raiders fall in Fordham finals

Hayes earns all-tourney nod
BRONX, N.Y. – Fordham's long-range shooting was too much to overcome as Middle Tennessee (9-4) fell to the host squad, 61-49, in the Fordham Holiday Classic here Saturday.
The loss overshadowed another stellar performance by A'Queen Hayes, who poured in a game-high 21 points to go with seven rebounds, four assists and a steal to earn a spot on the All-Tournament team.
Freshman Taylor Sutton added 12 points and Alex Johnson finished with nine to pace the Lady Raiders.
The game was nip-and-tuck throughout until Fordham (9-5) finally took control in the final three minutes due in large part to a barrage of 3-point field goals. The Rams were 6-of-9 from beyond the arc in the second half, including 3-for-4 in the final stanza, after going 3-for-10 in the opening half.
Middle Tennessee, on the other hand, was 3-of-17 from 3-point range – 1-for-11 in the second half.
"You have to give Fordham credit for knocking down the big shots," Lady Raider Head Coach Rick Insell said. "We had opportunities and it was a close game. They stepped up and made some clutch baskets."
The Lady Raiders will now turn their attention to Conference USA play. They open on the road with a weekend swing to FIU and Florida Atlantic beginning Thursday.
