FRANKLIN, Tenn. – After climbing as high as a tie for sixth place late in round three, Middle Tennessee women's golf's valiant comeback has been cut short Sunday morning as the remainder of round three has been canceled due to weather.
With scores reverting back to the end of round two, Middle Tennessee instead ties for 11th on the team leaderboard after beginning their climb with a round of 5-over 293 the first part of the day Saturday.
Playing without senior Jenna Burris due to injury in round three the Blue Raiders had put together an impressive team score of 4-under approximately two-thirds of the way through round three and were just one stroke shy of moving into the Top 5 in one of the toughest tournaments in the nation.
The Blue Raiders had surpassed a number of highly-ranked teams, including Houston, Louisville, Mercer, Michigan State, Missouri and North Carolina, to match LSU at 16-over and were just one stroke back of Clemson with approximately six holes to play.
Senior Hanley Long used a 4-under 68 in round two to move into the Top 10 and had continued to climb in the final round before the rain came, but settles for a tie for ninth and her fourth consecutive Top 10 finish dating back to the 2018 Conference USA Championship in April.
