Raiders Shine on Big Stage in Blazer and Vulcan Invites

Middle Tennessee saw several spectacular performances over the weekend as they competed in Birmingham at the UAB Blazer and Vulcan Invites. The venue was the Birmingham Crossplex, the site of both the Conference USA and NCAA Indoor Championships. Facing strong competition, some of the Blue Raiders return to Murfreesboro with their names in the meet and NCAA record books.
Notable Results
Torian's time in the 400 tied meet record set last year at the Vulcan Invite. He now ranks owns one of the top 10 best times in this event this year. Similarly, Tre'Von Sanders' win in the 600 was the 6th fastest mark by an American this season.
Abike Egbeniyi had a stellar weekend. She set the meet record in the 400 meters after running the 600 in 1:27.80, a time that is the 8th best in NCAA history.
MT saw multiple podium finishes over the weekend in mid-distance events as the Blue Raiders continued to showcase their strength in these events. Brian Rono, Jacob Choge, and Thobile Mosito raced their way to the podium in both meets.
The Blue Raiders' distance crew also peformed well, with Mosito and Choge going 1-2 in the men's 3K and Julia Jelagat winning the women's 5K by five seconds.
Both of the MT relay teams competed in the Blazer Invite relays, with the men taking home another title, their third in a row this season.
Jacob Patten, better known as the Blue Raiders' high jumper, finished on the podium in the triple jump.
Odugbesan competed in both shot put events this weekend, and improved on his second-place mark from the Blazer by nearly 0.7 meters to win the event and crush the meet record in the Vulcan Invite.

The Blue Raiders will make a much shorter trip next weekend when they travel to Nashville for the third time this season in a return to Vanderbilt for the Vanderbilt Invitational on January 18-19.
