TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 15 Middle Tennessee men's cross country team finished second overall at the NCAA South Regional Friday morning to move on to the National Championships.
"Another exciting season," said head coach Keith Vroman, "but it's not over yet."
The Blue Raider men finished second place out of 26 total scoring men's teams in the 10K with a team time of 2:33:09.50 and 83 points, only a 14 point difference from No. 11 Ole Miss who claimed the gold.
For the fourth time this season, Jacob Choge led the men's team, finishing third overall with a total time of 29:52.9. Choge was followed by Kigen Chemadi, who led the team in the first two races this season, coming in at fourth. Chemadi crossed the finish line with a time of 30:10.1. Freshman Hillary Kimaiyo and Thobile Mosito also finished Top 20, with Kimaiyo coming in at 12th and Mosito at 16th.
"The men ran very well as a team and controlled a good tempo," Vroman said. "The race ran exactly as planned to ensure we were top two and on our way to dancing."
The women also finished Top 15 in the 6K, coming in at number 11 with a total time of 1:47:40.30. Joice Jebor led the team, finishing 11th overall out of 200 runners. Jebor finished with a total time of 20:35.2. Pamela Kosgei was second on the team to finish with a time of 21:10.4, finishing 41st overall.
"The women had a great season, and a bad day," Vroman said. "The ladies learned a lot and will hopefully use that and be more prepared for a run next year."
The Blue Raider men move on to the NCAA National Championships on Saturday, Nov. 23 in Terre Haute, Ind.
