ST. GEORGE, Utah – With a short fall season behind them, the Middle Tennessee men's golf team turns the page to its first spring tournament of 2019 Monday as the Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational tees off Monday.
"It feels like forever since we teed it up and the team and I are ready to get the spring season started," Head Coach Mark McEntire said. "We did some great off season work and look forward to seeing how they respond under tournament conditions."
The Blue Raiders are one of 11 teams in the field at the Par 72, 6,900-yard Sunbrook Golf Course. In addition to tournament host Southern Utah, MT will be going toe-to-toe with Creighton, Fairleigh Dickinson, Northern Colorado, South Dakota State, Stetson, Utah State, Utah Valley, Weber State and Western Illinois.
The anchors of Middle Tennessee's fall lineup, senior James Beckner and junior Tanner Owens, will once again feature in the opening tournament this spring alongside freshman Palmer Sadlowski.
A pair of reinforcements join the trio in senior Marcus Byrd, who missed the fall due to injury, and Vanderbilt transfer Cooper Sears. The latter is playing in his first tournament as a Blue Raider after enrolling at Middle Tennessee in January.
"We have taken the redshirt off Marcus Byrd and added Cooper Sears to the lineup, and I look for them to give us some solid rounds and help us get back into position to make a run at postseason," McEntire exclaimed.
The Blue Raiders will also travel freshman Jake Marvelli to the Thunderbird Invitational with the lefty making an appearance in St. George as an individual.
The Blue Raiders will tee off at Noon CT on holes four through seven alongside defending champion Utah Valley as well as Weber State.
