MEMPHIS, Tenn.–Middle Tennessee (5-6) dropped a pair of games Saturday to Memphis (4-6) by a score of 7-5 in game one, and 8-6 in game two.
"We couldn't hold them," Head coach Jim Toman said. "We got the lead early in both games but they came back on us."
GAME 1
A two-run double in the bottom of the eighth inning propelled the Tigers to victory over the Blue Raiders in game one of the doubleheader.
Starter Peyton Wigginton was once again dominant on the mound until he found trouble in the sixth inning. The Blue Raiders enjoyed a 4-2 lead until a three-run inning in the sixth for the Tigers gave them their first lead of the series. The lefty went 5.1 innings, striking out three but got touched for 10 hits.
The Blue Raiders would tie the game up in the eighth inning, when Drew Huff scored on a fielder's choice from third.
But the bases clearing double for the Tigers in the eighth would be the deciding blow.
Aaron Antonini once again had a stellar day at the plate. The catcher went 3-for-3 and scored two of the Blue Raider's five runs.
Third baseman Drew Huff produced the most damage, driving in two runs off three hits, and scoring a run.
GAME 2
Similar to game one, the Tigers put together clutch hits to take the lead late.
After a 45 minute break between games, the Blue Raiders came out swinging, scoring four runs in the first three innings. But Memphis stormed back.
The Tigers plated three runs to tie the game in the seventh, before taking their only lead with two runs in the eighth.
Senior Drew Huff once again put together a great game at the plate. The captain drove in an RBI, scored three runs, went a combined 6-for-10 in the doubleheader.
