Raiders Sweep C-USA Opponent FIU in Three-Game Series

Murfreesboro, Tenn.- The Middle Tennessee softball team completed the three game sweep against C-USA opponent FIU on Sunday at Blue Raider Softball Field. The Raiders (18-15, C-USA 4-2) were led by strong outings from Amber Baldwin in games one and three of the series. Baldwin closed out the series by recording her second complete game shutout against FIU (18-15, C-USA 0-6).
The Raiders came out swinging in the first inning, Sydney Heath led off the bottom of half with a double away from the shift in the left-center gap. Sophomore Jocelynn De La Cruz shot a single up the middle and brought Heath around to score from second base.
Murfreesboro native Kirstyn Cuccia kept the Raider offense rolling in the second inning with a two run home run over the right field foul pole and opened up the raider lead to 3-0. This was Cuccia's fourth home run of the season and her third in the last five games.
Lani Rodriguez led off the third inning with a single and advanced to second on a fielding error. De La Cruz stayed hot, doubling over the right fielder's head. With no outs and two runners in scoring position, Lexi Cushing hit a sacrifice fly in foul territory down the right field line to plate Rodriguez and stretched the Raider lead to 4-0. Brooke McClure reached safely on a squeeze bunt and pinch runner Keely McGee scored from third making the Raider lead 5-0.
Sophomore Amber Baldwin picked up right where she left off after Saturday's six inning shutout, and pitch another seven innings of scoreless softball. Baldwin allowed just five hits through seven innings, tied her season high in strikeouts with seven, and picked up her fourth win along the way.
The Raiders will travel 40 minutes north on Wednesday to play a non-conference game against Tennessee State University at 6:00 p.m. After the midweek match up with the Tigers, the Raiders will go to Charlotte for a three game C-USA series against the 49ers.
