HUNTINGTON, W. Va. – Marshall (16-9, 5-2) came ready to swing the bats Friday afternoon, dropping the Blue Raiders (8-17, 3-4) by a score of 13-3.
Middle Tennessee got the scoring started early when Drew Huff smashed an opposite field two-run home run that also scored JT Mabry who started the game with a leadoff double. But after that it was all Marshall.
The Thundering Herd would take the lead in the fourth inning with four runs, including a two-RBI single from Erik Rodriguez. Rodriguez would finish the game with eight RBIs. Rey Pastrana would also drive in three runs for the Thundering Herd.
Marshall would tally runs in the fourth, fifth, and seventh innings to push their lead to double digits.
Darrell Freeman Jr. would get his 11th RBI of the season when he was walked with the bases loaded in the fourth inning.
Peyton Wigginton drew the first start of his career that wasn't on the mound. Wigginton started in left field and narrowly missed a home run when his fly ball was caught at the warning track in the seventh inning. The lefty is the projected starter for MT tomorrow.
For Huff, the home run was the first of the season for the senior, and eighth of his career.
What's Next?
The Blue Raiders will look to even the series up with the Thundering Herd tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
