MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee will be making its 12th NCAA Tournament appearance when it faces NC State in Knoxville, TN on Friday at 11am EDT.
The Blue Raiders (18-11) earned Conference USA's automatic berth into the field of 64 by a come-from-behind 4-3 battle against No. 1-seed FAU in the 2019 C-USA championship tournament. Middle Tennessee, which earned a No. 3 seed, will play in the Knoxville Region of the 2019 NCAA Men's Tennis Championship.
The winner of Friday's match will face the winner of host 1-seed Tennessee vs. 4-seed Radford, Saturday at 2pm EDT. Middle Tennessee and NC State (18-10) have met three previous times with the Blue Raiders leading the series 2-1. The last meeting took place Jan. 30, 2015 with NC State claiming it 7-0 at their home court.
"We are excited to be heading to Knoxville to play NC State," said Middle Tennessee Head Coach Jimmy Borendame. "They are a good team and I am expecting a tough match. I'm looking forward to getting after practice the next few days to prepare." Coach Borendame emphasized," We hope our Blue Raiders faithful will come down the road to support us in Knoxville."
This will be the 12th NCAA appearance for the Raiders, the first four appearances came out of the Ohio Valley Conference and the last seven were in the Sun Belt. In their first appearance, the Raiders fell 4-0 to host No. 1-seed Florida. In their last postseason run, MT was downed 4-0 by No. 21 Michigan in Oxford, Miss in 2012.
NC State posted a 18-10 overall mark, including a 8-4 ledger in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and reached the semifinals of the tournament but fell to Wake Forest, 4-2. The Wolfpack were 12-4 at home this season, and 4-5 in games played away from their home court.
