AUBURN, Ala. – Blue Raider senior Hanley Long is set to tee off alongside some of her fellow golfer's ranked among the nation's best as the 2019 NCAA Auburn Regional begins Monday at Saugahatchee Country Club.
Long, who is the first Blue Raider ever to be selected for NCAA Regionals as an individual, is one of 96 golfers in the field that features 18 teams and six individuals. Her fellow individual competitors this week hail from Kentucky, Fresno State, Chattanooga, Texas State and College of Charleston.
"What she's done as an individual to be ranked high enough to be picked to come to regionals is a great accomplishment," Head Coach Chris Adams said. "Having her represent Middle Tennessee here is huge for our program and it's a great opportunity to play in a field that's very strong.
With a strong showing, the 2019 Conference USA Golfer of the Year and four-time All-Conference USA selection could finish her career with a bang by advancing to the NCAA Championships. In order to do so, Long will have to be one of the Top 3 individuals not on one of the six advancing teams.
"I'm coming into this week with no expectations," Long said. "I would definitely love to play well and advance to nationals but I'm just excited to tee it up and have some fun.
"I like the setup of the golf course and I feel like it could fit my game really well. It's close enough to home to where my family and friends will be here so it has sort of a home tournament feel. I'm just pumped that I get to represent Middle Tennessee in postseason play and have some fun with it."
Long will tee off on the first tee box Monday at 9:40 a.m. and will play alongside Kentucky's Leonie Bettel and Fresno State's Brigitte Thibault during the first round of action at the Par 72, 6,371-yard Saugahatchee Country Club.
"The golf course sets up very nice," Adams added. "It is a little tricky around the greens, but from tee to green it's very visually appealing and is a very likeable golf course. It's going to be a fun course to play for the next three days, so it's something we look forward to and I think Hanley is excited about the opportunity."
