Junior forward to miss 2019-20 season
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee junior DeAndre Dishman has been ruled out for the 2019-20 season due to a knee injury, Head Men's Basketball Coach Nick McDevitt announced Monday afternoon.
The Lexington, Ky., native sustained the injury during game two of the Blue Raiders' preseason foreign tour in Costa Rica, and will have surgery to repair the torn ligaments in his left knee on Thursday.
The 6-foot-6, 220-pound forward sat out the 2018-19 season in Murfreesboro due to NCAA transfer rules after beginning his career in his home state at Eastern Kentucky University and was expected to start and be a significant contributor for the Blue Raiders this season.
"We are all extremely disappointed for DeAndre," McDevitt said. "We all feel badly for him because we know how excited he was to play and be a major contributor for us this season.
"I know he will bounce back from this and come back stronger than ever."
While with the Colonels, Dishman averaged 11.7 points and 6.2 rebounds per game as a sophomore and 5.9 points and 4.5 rebounds as a freshman.
The skilled post player shot over 56 percent from the field in both seasons at EKU and earned 30 starts in 57 games before transferring to Middle Tennessee as part of McDevitt's first signing class in Murfreesboro.
